Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa, on Tuesday, questioned why the JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy and the BJP leaders did not meet the victims of sexual assault in Hassan, in which the court recently sentenced former MP Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment.
In a press conference in Shivamogga on Tuesday, Mr. Bangarappa said leaders of the BJP and JD(S) were taking out yatras to Dharmasthala for political reasons. Even as the investigation by the Special Investigation Team into the incidents in the temple town was on, the parties planned visits to the place to politicise the issue, he said.
“I want to know why JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy did not visit Hassan, where many women were victims of sexual assault. Similarly, why did the BJP not visit the victims?”, he asked.
Further, he alleged that the BJP was murdering democracy. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised the serious issue of vote theft, and the common people would stand by him, he said. “The Central government has been targeting non-BJP-ruled States. The BJP, because of its undemocratic moves, will fail the country. Finally, people of the country, including those with the BJP, will suffer,” he said.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with President of China Xi Jinping, Mr. Bangarappa asked if the two discussed the border dispute.
