Gaya BJP candidate Prem Kumar
Gaya: As far as optics are concerned, Prem Kumar, the BJP candidate for Gaya town, stole a march over his 21 other rivals, including Congress candidate Akhauri Onkar Nath, alias Mohan Srivastava, and Dhirendra Agrawal of the Jan Suraaj, as the sitting MLA and state cooperative minister peddled the 200-metre distance between his Swarajpuri Road residence and polling station number 159 located in Ziradeyi Dharmshala.
The swanky bicycle belonged to a member of Kumar’s extended family, said an aide.A somewhat bulky Kumar had difficulty managing the balance but did not have any real risk of fall, as his family members and supporters on both sides of the bicycle were there to ensure that the leader remained safe, said an eyewitnesses.Though public took the gesture as a reminder of his humble origins, Kumar, in his Facebook post attributed it to his commitment to reduce the pollution level in the city. World Health Organisation, it may be recalled, earlier in 2018 declared Gaya as the fourth most polluted city of the world. The MLA exhorted the people to make Gaya clean and green. We owe it to our future generations, the FB post said.As per the declaration made in his affidavit, Kumar, known for his humble origins possesses assets worth more than Rs 82 lakh.
