Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday led the nation in celebrating music maestro Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations.Beginning today, the celebrations will unite people across the spectrum — from political leaders, setting aside their ideological differences, to various segments of society.The Prime Minister, while paying tribute to Hazarika on ‘X’ handle, wrote that the legendary music maestro brought global recognition to Assam’s folk culture and Indian music. He added that Hazarika’s creations transcended regional and linguistic boundaries, spreading a message of unity and brotherhood across the entire country. His invaluable contribution will continue to inspire generations to come.Saying that Hazarika’s contribution to music is unforgettable, the PM noted that the birth centenary celebration is an occasion to revisit his monumental contributions to Indian artistic expression and public consciousness.Meanwhile, Union home minister Amit Shah paid rich tribute to Hazarika and wrote on ‘X’, “Hazarika’s soulful voice carried the spirit of Assam to the world, and his creations spoke of love, unity, and humanity. His melodies will forever echo in our hearts, reminding us of the power of music to heal and unite. By conferring upon him the Bharat Ratna, PM Modi ensured that his legacy remains immortal.”Besides the PM and the Union home minister, the timeless works of the music maestro united people across the spectrum.

Congress’ national president Mallikarjun Kharge, while honouring the outstanding legacy of the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’, said as a visionary musician, poet, lyricist, and filmmaker deeply rooted in the culture of Assam, Hazarika’s creations went beyond regional boundaries, carrying with them the timeless message of humanity, harmony, and universal brotherhood.Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also paid tribute to the legendary musician.Tunes and songs of Hazarika filled the air since Monday morning across the state, remembering the legacy and contribution of the legendary artiste towards the community, society, and humanity. Events were organised at different levels across the state as well as outside the state.
