As part of the nationwide protest programmes organised by the All India Private Sector Bank Unions Cell, a State-level dharna was held in front of the Catholic Syrian Bank head office in Thrissur on Monday. The protest sought immediate action on various issues affecting employees of private sector banks across the country.

Former State Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunilkumar inaugurated the dharna. The event was presided over by All-India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) all-India convener and State president A.R. Sujith Raju. AIBEA all-India joint secretary and State general secretary B. Ramprakash delivered the keynote address.

The dharna raised major demands, including nationalising private sector banks; appointment of permanent clerical and sub-staff in private banks; withdrawal of punitive actions against Federal Bank employees; and implementing the long-pending wage revision for CSB Bank employees.

Ahead of the dharna, a protest march was organised from the former head office of Dhanlaxmi Bank at Naikkanal to the CSB Bank head office on St. Mary’s College Road, the venue of the demonstration.
