Pune: A private company employee from Ravet has lodged a complaint with the Ravet police, alleging that cyber fraudsters duped him of Rs 5.14 lakh through a fake traffic challan message sent to his mobile phone on May 5 this year.An officer from the Ravet police said the complainant received a text message titled “mParivahan”, claiming that a traffic violation challan was pending against his two-wheeler. The message contained a link.“The complainant clicked on the link. On June 6, he received at least 15 OTPs related to his two credit cards. Although he did not share the OTPs with anyone, transactions worth Rs 5.14 lakh were carried out using the cards,” the officer said.He said the link contained an APK file, which was automatically downloaded to the complainant’s mobile phone after he clicked on it. The accused allegedly gained remote access to the device through the file and used the OTPs to complete the fraudulent transactions.“We have sought details of the transactions from the complainant’s bank,” the officer said.
