Priya Malik, Vishvajit More Bag Bronze At U23 Asian World Wrestling Championships, Hansika Into Final

Indian wrestlers Priya Malik and Vishvajit More won bronze medals at the U23 Asian World Wrestling Championships 2025 on Friday.

Malik secured the bronze in the women’s 76kg category, while More claimed his in the 55kg Greco-Roman category, contributing to India’s medal count at the event.

Continuing the commendable performance of Indian women at the U23 World Wrestling Championships, Hansika Lamba reached the 53kg semifinal, and Neha Sharma advanced to the bronze medal contest in the 57kg weight class through the repechage round on Friday.

Priya Malik earned India’s second medal of the tournament on Thursday night, defeating Mexican wrestler Edna Jimenez Villalba with a commanding 8-1 victory to secure a bronze.

Nishu (55kg), Pulkit (65kg), and Srishti (68kg) are also set to compete for bronze medals later in the day.

Hansika performed impressively, losing only two points in her three bouts. She started with an 11-0 win over Victoryia Volk and followed with an 8-2 victory against Kazakhstan’s Zeinep Bayanova. In the quarterfinals, she achieved a technical superiority victory (10-0) over Uzbekistan’s Dilshoda Matnazarova.

Savita was narrowly defeated 3-4 by Ukraine’s Iryna Bondar in her 1/8th round match, where Bondar’s counterattack helped her defend her lead.

Hanny Kumari (50kg) and Diksha Malik (72kg) were eliminated from the tournament earlier.

The men’s freestyle event also began on Friday. Pravinder (74kg) lost his first round by technical superiority to American Mitchell Owen Mesenbrink, while Sachin (92kg) was defeated at the quarterfinal stage.
