Actress Priyamani, known for 'The Family Man', has voiced her strong disapproval of the 'Pan-India' label, questioning the need to differentiate Indian actors. She also urged audiences to enjoy films without overanalyzing them with labels, emphasizing appreciation for the hard work involved. Priyamani's upcoming projects include 'Jana Nayagan' and 'The Family Man 3'.
Actress Priyamani is back in the headlines for her outspoken opinions. She is nationally famous for her role in the series ‘The Family Man’.
Priyamani questions the need to separate North and South industries
She has strongly criticized the term “Pan-India actress” that is widely used in the current film industry.
“We are all Indians. So why should we say ‘Pan-India’?” asked Priyamani when speaking with Mathrubhumi.
“There is no need to call a South Indian actress ‘Pan-India’ just because she acts in a North Indian film. Similarly, if a North Indian actor acts in the South, no one will call him a ‘regional actor’,” she said.
'The Family Man' actress points out legends
Priyamani, 41, who has acted in multiple languages, said the “pan-India” tag creates a divide between talent.
“Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj, and Dhanush have acted in multiple languages for many years. "But no one called them 'pan-India' stars; they were just called Indian actors," she said, adding with a laugh, "This newfound curiosity is hilarious."
Priyamani urges audiences to stop overanalyzing films
She also said that current audiences are “very emotional” about watching and criticizing films. “You can watch a film and give your opinion, but don’t go overboard.
"There's no need to discuss everything as Red flags, Green flags, or Gen Z labels. Enjoy a film as its creation," Priyamani said. “Many people work hard on every film; appreciate their hard work,” she said.
Priyamani will be next seen in 'Jana Nayagan' and 'The Family Man 3'
Talking about her personal life, she says that her husband, Mustafa Raj, often advises her on choosing stories, adding, "Sometimes I ask for my opinion — and most of the time it ends up being a good decision," she said with a laugh. Priyamani will soon be seen reprising her role as ‘Susi’ in ‘The Family Man’ season 3 alongside Manoj Bajpayee. She is also playing a crucial role in Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan'. But off-screen, she is an actress who is not afraid to speak the truth about the industry honestly.
