Priyanka accuses PM Modi of undermining dignity of office

Patna: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on PM Narendra Modi for his “katta” remarks, saying such language was unbecoming of a person holding the country’s highest post. She also accused the ruling NDA regime of attempting to “bribe” women voters by offering them Rs10,000 for business purposes and urged them to vote for change to keep their families together.Addressing a series of rallies in Barari, Kadwa (both in Katihar district), and Purnia, Priyanka criticised the tone and content of the PM’s speeches. “I heard Modiji talking about ‘katta, donali, goli, firauti, rangdari’ at a public rally. Does this suit a PM?” she asked during her address in Purnia. “PM ne pad ki garima kharab kar di hai (the PM has lowered the dignity of the post),” she said.Accusing the PM of being disconnected from the people, Priyanka alleged, “The PM comes before the masses only during elections.

When it is not election time, he is seen shaking hands with the Presidents of the US, China, and Israel.” She added that Modi had neglected his own Varanasi constituency, showing “little concern for the people who elected him.”Turning to the NDA’s welfare initiatives, Priyanka called the Rs10,000 scheme for women a “bribe” meant to buy votes. “Yes, take the money but don’t vote for them lest your families remain divided.

Modiji has finished job opportunities, but we will provide jobs in your own towns so you can stay with your families,” she said.Speaking at another rally in Barari, Priyanka said, “Wives fight their family’s battles alone because their husbands are forced to migrate for work. We will change this. We will ensure that families stay together. For this, you must vote for the INDIA bloc.” She accused the NDA govt of reducing job opportunities through privatisation of public sector units. She also attacked the state govt over recurring paper leak scandals. “Paper leak scandals ne aapki jawani khatm kar di hai (paper leak scandals have ruined your youth),” she said.Priyanka likened the opposition’s fight against the BJP to Mahatma Gandhi’s struggle for citizens’ rights. “The battle that the Congress and the INDIA bloc are fighting today is the same battle that Mahatma Gandhi fought back then,” she said, accusing the PM of “weakening” the Constitution and the democratic process.Claiming that the people were disillusioned with the BJP-led regime, Priyanka alleged that the ruling alliance had started “resorting to electoral malpractices” to cling to power. She cited the alleged deletion of 65 lakh voters from Bihar’s electoral rolls as an example of the NDA’s “fear of defeat.”
