The Chemical Emergency Response Centre (CHEMREC ) team under the Department of Factories and Boilers has launched an investigation into the boiler explosion at Decor Panel Plywood Industries in the Ananthapuram industrial area, which claimed the life of a migrant worker and injured six others.

Officials said the investigation report would be submitted to the department by Wednesday. According to preliminary findings, one of the two large boilers at the factory exploded with a loud noise tearing through the sheet roof and scattering debris to a kilometre away.

Officials are also probing reports that the boiler valve might have opened suddenly, triggering the blast, though no official confirmation has been issued.

While Nazeerul Ali, a native of Assam, was killed in the incident, six other migrant workers sustained injuries, one seriously. The body of Nazeerul was sent to his hometown on Tuesday evening after post-mortem at the Kasargod General Hospital.
