Thousands of Muslims took out colourful ‘jhulus’ (Id procession) in Hubballi and Dharwad to mark the celebration of Id-e-Milad-un-Nabi on Friday.

The festival marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad and is celebrated with religious fervour. In fact, this year, there was no DJ sound systems belting out loud music during the Id procession.

It was because Anjuman-e-Islam of both Hubballi and Dharwad had decided against using DJ sound systems during the ID procession. In fact, the office bearers of Anjuman-e-Islam had even met Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar urging him not to permit any DJ sound system during the procession few days ago.

Accordingly, when the Id procession in Hubballi was flagged off from Gausia Madrasa at Islampur in Old Hubballi after the namaz, no huge sound systems accompanied the procession. Similar was the scene in Dharwad too.

Addressing the participants at the Badi Masjid on Pendar Galli, former Minister A.M. Hindasageri said that Prophet Mohammed was an epitome of peace and harmony and his preachings enlightened the world and facilitated establishment of peace in the world. Mr. Hindasageri called on the youths to use the money required hiring DJ sound systems for meaningful programmes.

MLA and chairman of Karnataka Slum Development Board, Prasad Abbayya, who shared the dias, concurred with Mr. Hindasageri and greeted the participants.

The Id procession, which began from Gausia Madrasa, passed through Bankapur Chowk, Yallapur Oni, Veerapur Oni, Durgad Bail Circle and New English School before concluding at the dargah in Asar Oni. Another procession was also taken out to mark the occasion with various religious heads leading the both the processions.

Dharwad witnessed a huge colourful procession that covered the thoroughfares of the city. Office bearers of Anjuman-e-Islam and religious heads led the procession.
