Women and children safety remained a key focus for the Cyberabad commissionerate in 2025. The Women and Children Safety Wing (W&CSW) of the Cyberabad police recorded extensive enforcement, rescue and counselling activity in 2025, with a particular focus on street prostitution and anti-human trafficking.
Senior officials revealed the involvement of an increasing number of women students. As per the annual round-up report released on Tuesday (December 23, 2025), the police booked 121 cases related to street prostitution and arrested 508 persons, including 262 sex workers and 246 transgender persons. As part of the action, 356 individuals were bound over, while 24 sex workers were sent to jail for violations under Section 296 (Obscene acts and songs) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 8 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
“We are seeing an increase in number of young women involved in street prostitution. They are bound over and, during counselling, we learn that many are pursuing education in various colleges. The next big category is women working as domestic help,” a senior official informed on condition of anonymity. These individuals were issued notices under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), following which counselling sessions were conducted and warnings issued to deter repeat involvement.
The trend has prompted the department to intensify awareness programmes across educational institutions and workplaces to address the issue.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) registered 103 cases under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act in 2025, arresting 257 accused and rescuing 195 victims. In addition, 10 foreign nationals, including five from Tanzania, two from Uganda, one each from Kenya, South Africa and Bangladesh, involved in prostitution were deported to their home countries with the coordination of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office.
The She Teams registered 83 cases, booked 2,964 petty cases and counselled 3,322 individuals during the year as the teams received 1,043 petitions through direct complaints and social media. Decoy operations during the year led to the apprehension of 3,315 persons and the prevention of one child marriage.
Under Operation Smile- XI and Muskan-XI, police rescued 2,298 children, of whom 2,193 were handed over to their parents and 105 admitted to child care institutions, with 622 FIRs registered. Family counselling centres conducted 9,477 counselling sessions to 2,741 families, leading to reuniting 803 families. Additionally, sustained drives to trace long-pending missing cases led to 566 missing persons being traced and reunited with their families.
Preventive outreach remained a key focus alongside enforcement. The AHTU conducted 299 awareness programmes during the year, reaching over 6,020 people, while the She Teams also conducted 3,887 awareness programmes attended by 1.76 lakh people.
