The Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) Abolition Movement staged a protest in Chennai on Wednesday reiterating its demand to resume the Old Pension Scheme. Frederic Engels, State co-ordinator of CPS Abolition Movement said that the DMK had, in its election manifesto, assured that it would resume the Old Pension Scheme. “Over 48,000 employees have retired since 2003 and they have not yet received their gratuity. Over 8,000 have died and their families have not received family pension,” he said.
Reiterating their demand to resume the Old Pension Scheme, Mr. Engels said that the committee led by an IAS officer has submitted an interim report. “Even the report submitted by the previous committee has not been made public. The Tamil Nadu government should immediately resume the Old Pension Scheme without any further delay,” Mr. Engels said.
