Patna Smart City Limited will soon introduce a digital booking system for the new crematorium at Bans Ghat, with inauguration targeted within a month. Through a WhatsApp chatbot, dedicated helpline, online portal, and mobile app, the system aims to make arrangements simpler and more dignified for bereaved families, removing physical queues and ensuring transparent, timely services for all users.

Patna: Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL) plans to launch an online booking system for the new crematorium at Bans Ghat alongside the inauguration of the facility. The digital infrastructure includes a WhatsApp chatbot, a 24-hour helpline, an online portal and an app, as disclosed by a senior PSCL official on condition of anonymity.

These platforms are currently under development and will be released to the public once the crematorium is officially opened. The official added, “At least 95% of the construction and technical work is complete. The current timeline aims for an inauguration within one month. The primary motive for digitising the booking process is to simplify procedures for the public during times of grief and high stress.”The WhatsApp chatbot service will be facilitated by Patna Municipal Corporation.

While the bot currently provides other municipal services, the cremation slot booking option is being integrated into the existing menu. A dedicated 24-hour helpline will also record service requests and provide registration assistance through an on-site help desk for those unable to use the digital tools. The online portal will require users to log in via mobile number and OTP to enter details. Users can select the type of cremation and choose specific time slots.

The system also integrates bookings for hearse vans, firewood, priest and ritual materials. Payments will be handled through online gateways and UPI.Upon completion of a booking, the system will send a confirmation via SMS. Following the final rites, the plan is for the platform to generate digital death certificates. This transition to a digital system is intended to eliminate physical queues and ensure transparency in the management of the Bans Ghat facility.
