Sri Sathya Sai district Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Ratna on Thursday warned political and public groups of strict legal action if found to be involved in unauthorised protests and road blockades in sensitive cases. Speaking at a crime review meeting here, the SP said that any attempt to disturb public peace would not be tolerated. Any attempts of miscreants taking law into their own hands during the protests would be dealt with sternly, she added.
Referring to the recent protests in Ramagiri mandal in the backdrop of the gangrape of a minor girl and resulting pregnancy, the SP said that without police permission, such protests would not be allowed. Ms. Ratna highlighted that the law would ensure justice for victims. “Revealing sensitive information during protests could damage the investigation and also harm the victims,” she said.
The SP called on the political and social organisations to follow restraint and avoid holding demonstrations, as they would not only disrupt law and order but expose the victims. She affirmed that any breach of law and order and attempt to incite public emotions during tensions would invite criminal prosecution.
