Punjab businessman Sanjay Verma shot dead outside showroom; assailants flee on bike; investigation under way

BATHINDA: A well-known businessman of Abohar town in district Fazilka, Sanjay Verma was killed outside his showroom Monday morning. Sanjay Verma along with his elder brother Jagat Verma owns ‘New Wear Well’, a tailoring showroom known across Punjab for stitching of Kurta Pyajamas. Sanjay Verma just had reached the showroom in the main bazaar of Abohar when three persons fired at him and fled on a nearby parked bike. He was rushed to civil hospital where doctors declared him dead. The motive of the crime could not be known but as per the family members, he had no enmity with anyone. Police officials reached the spot and investigations are being made to know motive behind the killing. Angry Abohar shopkeepers downed shutters after the killing. Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, who belongs to Abohar and Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal raised question marks over the prevailing law and order situation in Punjab. Only three days ago, two persons had fired at Punjabi Actress Tania’ stepfather Dr Aniljit Kamboj by posing as patients at his clinic in Kot Ise Khan town of district Moga.
