Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is the only Indian singles shuttler to be seeded at the upcoming BWF World Championships, with Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy ranked below the seeding levels on Friday. Notably, Sindhu is the only Indian to become a world champion.

Sindhu is seeded 15th among the 16 shuttlers in the women’s singles draw, headed by defending champion An Se Young. Two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi holds the fifth seed.

At the 2023 World Championships in Copenhagen, India had two men’s singles shuttlers among the top 16 seeds, Prannoy at No. 9 and Lakshya at No. 11. This year, no Indian shuttler features among the top 16 seeds in the men’s singles category.

The seedings for the BWF World Championships were based on the world rankings released on Friday.

Sindhu will be looking to regain her big-match composure after an inconsistent season till now.

After reaching the quarterfinals at the India Open to start the year, Sindhu hasn’t been able to make it to the last eight in any event since.

Lakshya made it to the quarterfinals of the All England Open but faced difficulties throughout the Asian leg of the season.

Ranked 21st in the world, Lakshya has earned a reputation for exceeding expectations at major events and fans will hope that he can once again rise to the occasion at the World Championships.

Prannoy, who won bronze at the 2023 edition, is ranked 34th in the world. He has failed to make the quarterfinals in the 11 tournaments that he has played this season.

In men’s doubles, former World No. 1 duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been seeded ninth.

In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are seeded 12th, while Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto hold the 16th seed in mixed doubles.

China have a strong presence in mixed doubles, holding the top two positions through Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping and Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin, besides Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui (No.7) and Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi (No.12).
