Days after Israel's strike against Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar's prime minister is meeting with senior US officials. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani is meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sept. 12. Their meeting is expected to focus on Israel’s military strikes but could also include talks on a new US-Qatar defence deal.President Trump signed a “letter of intent” with Qatar about such a defence deal in May that could see the emirate buy millions of dollars’ worth of US military equipment. After Israel launched the attack in Doha, Trump said on social media that he wanted Rubio to finalize an agreement.The talks come a day after the Qatari premier addressed an emergency meeting at the US Security Council about Israel bombing Doha.At the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed said that Israel had crossed a line and it had now “become impossible to predict” what the country might do next.
