Qatar beat UAE 2-1 to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Qatar booked their berth in the upcoming edition of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico with a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Boualem Khoukhi opened the scoring for the hosts in the second half before Pedro Miguel netted the insurance goal for the hosts of the previous edition of the quadrennial spectacle. Sultan Adill Alamiri netted the consolation for UAE.
With the win, Qatar finished top of Group A in the fourth phase of Asia’s qualifiers ahead of the UAE and Oman, to secure qualification. It marked the first time Qatar qualifies for the World Cup through the qualifiers after having qualified last time out as hosts of the event.
However, there was bedlam at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium as fans went bonkers after each of the hosts’ strikes with fans invading the pitch and throwing projectiles onto the pitch as security had to intervene to keep the situation under control.

In Group B, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia clinched the remaining spot for Asian qualifiers ahead of Iraq.
These teams will join Japan, South Korea, Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Jordan, who had already secured their places in December’s draw for the finals during the previous phase of preliminaries.
