Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra launched a fierce attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of using fear and intimidation to break the party, and pushed for unity among all Opposition parties to take on the ruling party.
The 51-year-old MP also accused rebel TMC leaders of being disloyal to former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by choosing to ally with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and dared them to resign from their positions and seek a fresh mandate on BJP tickets.
“Greed and treachery have no limits. The BJP was desperate since the drubbing on the floor of the Lok Sabha, when they did not get the two-thirds majority. So, they’ve done their calculations, and by hook or by crook, they want to get another 40-50 MPs. They do not believe in getting this through elections; they want to do it through jod-tod (breaking parties)," she told The Indian Express.
Moitra alleged that the BJP was using central agencies to create an atmosphere of fear and a false perception of public anger against the Trinamool Congress.
