The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department on Sunday (November 09, 2025) launched a Danish Asphalt Fiber Reinforcement Technology pilot project on National Highway-342 between Puttaparthi and Koduru in Sri Sathya Sai district.

According to a press release issued here, the initiative, taken up under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, marked a major milestone for the district, which is emerging as a key connectivity hub linking the Rayalaseema region with major national corridors. Officials said that the project will significantly improve road quality and travel efficiency in and around Puttaparthi—an internationally known spiritual destination attracting thousands of visitors each year.

The Danish technology, already proven in projects such as Heathrow Airport (UK), the Dubai Metro, and Germany’s A7 Motorway, strengthens asphalt with high-performance Aramid and Polyolefin fiber. This makes roads more resistant to cracks, potholes, and damage from heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.

Officials said that the technology could extend road lifespan by over 50% while reducing maintenance costs. It is also eco-friendly and compatible with existing machinery.

With Sri Sathya Sai district chosen as the testing ground for this advanced method, Andhra Pradesh aims to position itself as a national leader in sustainable road innovation. If successful, the model is likely to be replicated across other highways in the State and the country.
