On the occasion of World Radio Day (February 13), veteran radio voice Sravanti Majumdar was felicitated at Kaan Pete Roi, an event organised by Haimantir Konthe and The Dreamers Music PR Agency.
The gathering was held at a south Kolkata restaurant, in presence of Haimanti Roy, Soumya Dasgupta, Debashis Bose, Sudipta Chanda and others.Speaking at the event, Sravanti Majumdar reflected on her journey and the enduring relevance of radio. “Radio never tires people out,” she said, adding that while nostalgia has its place, one cannot remain anchored to memories. She shared that she had originally come to pursue singing and had not planned a career in radio.
Emphasising the need for excellence, she expressed hope that future generations would place greater value on quality work.

Discussions during the evening touched upon radio dramas, advertisement jingles and popular broadcast programmes. Soumya Dasgupta, son of legendary composer Sudhin Dasgupta, reminisced about recording sessions with Majumdar, recalling that he earned twenty five rupees for playing during those days.
He noted that multiple tunes were often composed for a single advertisement before selecting the best.Radio presenter Raja Das acknowledged the influence of senior broadcasters, saying he had learned immensely from their generation. Haimanti Roy, one of the initiators of the programme, described radio as a constant childhood companion, especially during travels.The evening concluded with a musical performance by Haimanti Roy, who rendered popular songs including Ami Banglay Gaan Gai, Kon Se Alor Swapno Niye, Takhon Tomar Ekush Bachhor Bodh Hoy, and Sei Raate Raat Chhilo Purnima.
