Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday tore into the Nitish Kumar government over the murder of Patna businessman Gopal Khemka, claiming that the ruling NDA coalition has "turned Bihar into the crime capital of India."

"Today, Bihar lives under the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the new normal, and the government has completely failed," he tweeted.

The incident, which was caught on CCTV, has stirred a political row with only a few months left for the state assembly elections, as RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the police took two hours to reach the crime scene.

"It's a horrible incident. The businessmen want to leave Bihar. The incident has occurred in the heart of Patna... Still, it takes the police two hours to arrive here," he told news agency ANI.
