Patna: Railways has rolled out QR code-based identification for all food stall vendors operating in the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) following directives from the Railway Board to ensure transparency and convenience for passengers.Danapur senior divisional commercial manager Abhinav Siddarth told this newspaper that all authorised food stall vendors have been issued a unique QR code, which is prominently displayed at their stalls. “These QR codes contain essential information including the vendor’s name, licence details and a complete list of food items with their approved prices,” he said.According to Siddarth, the new initiative aims to curb malpractices such as overcharging and the presence of unauthorised vendors at railway stations.
“Passengers can simply scan the QR code using their mobile phones to verify vendor authenticity and ensure they are being charged the fair price,” he said. The Railway Board has emphasised the importance of the initiative, especially in light of growing concerns over food safety and passengers’ grievances at railway stations. “This digital identification measure is expected to bring greater transparency and create a uniform standard of food service across the division,” the senior DCM said, adding that these facilities are available at all key stations in the division where the QR system is being implemented.
He further confirmed that regular inspections will be carried out to ensure compliance and penalise vendors who fail to display the QR code or indulge in irregularities.
