Moderate to heavy rains lashed Mysuru and surrounding regions on Saturday night and continued till the early hours of Sunday.
According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Mysuru received 15.1 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday. This is against a normal or long-period average of 3.4 mm for the same period.
Mandya recorded 19.8 mm of rainfall against a normal of 4.8 mm, while Chamarajanagar received 16.6 mm of rainfall against a normal of 5.3 mm during the same period. The rainfall was uniform and widespread, and Kodagu received 11.8 mm against a normal of 3.9 mm, according to KSNDMC.
The highest rainfall in the State during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, was recorded at Shanegere gram panchayat in Arasikere taluk of Hassan district. It received 171 mm of rains, as per KSNDMC records.
The cumulative rainfall from October 1 to 19 borders between large excess in Hassan to excess in other districts of Mysuru region. Hassan received 177 mm of rains till date during the month, which is 77% higher than normal. Mysuru recorded 120 mm of rainfall, which is 32% above normal; while Mandya registered 153 mm of rains, which is 52% higher than normal. Chamarajanagar received 109 mm of rains, which is 8% above normal. However, Kodagu district has received 108 mm of rainfall during the same period which is 16 per cent below the long-period average.
The KSNDMC has forecast heavy rains and thundershowers in places over Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru, and light to moderate rains over Mysuru, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar districts. Yellow alert has been issued for Kodagu and Shivamogga, which is valid till 8.30 a.m. on Monday.
