A fresh spate of rain-related incidents has hit Himachal Pradesh after multiple landslides were reported on Friday (September 19, 2025), further disrupting life in the state, which has been hit hard by torrential rains during the past few months.

After a landslide struck near a prominent school in Shimla, which forced the administration to order the closure of the institution for two days, another such disaster struck Kangra district.

Rescue personnel finally reached a mother -- Kanta Devi (38) lying crushed under a heavy object clutching her two 10-year-old twins in each arm -- the scene was heart-rending for everyone who saw it, as loud wails of relatives and fellow villagers tore through Kuntari Lagaphali, a quiet hill village about 50 km from Chamoli’s district headquarters at Gopeshwar.

A woman, her seven-year-old son, and a neighbour also drowned after falling into a drain amid heavy rain in Annamayya district on Friday. According to police, Sheik Munni (28) and her son were walking near the SN Colony Anganwadi when a stone slab covering the drain broke, causing them to fall.
