Even as the Chief Minister claimed that the state government did not organise the Vidhana Soudha event to felicitate RCB players, Raj Bhavan has issued a statement saying the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially invited the Governor to attend it.

According to Raj Bhavan, the Governor initially planned to host the RCB players at Raj Bhavan. However, when the Raj Bhavan reached out to the Chief Secretary to coordinate the felicitation, they were informed that the state government would be holding an event at Vidhana Soudha instead.

“The Chief Minister officially invited the Governor to participate in the Vidhana Soudha event to felicitate RCB players," the statement from Raj Bhavan said.

Siddaramaiah government had earlier taken a defensive but firm stance, particularly regarding the stampede that occurred near Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory celebrations. The government has emphasised that no incident took place within Vidhana Soudha and accused the opposition of leveraging the tragedy for political gain.

“Our government has taken the stampede case seriously," said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, pushing back against demands for accountability and accusing the BJP and JD(S) of politicising the matter.

He maintained that the stampede was not part of any official government event, which Raj Bhavan denied.

Govt Went Ahead Despite Warning

The Karnataka government went ahead with the felicitation ceremony for IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Vidhana Soudha on June 4, despite receiving a clear warning from the police about potential risks associated with the event.

Later that evening, a massive crowd of cricket fans gathered outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for the victory celebrations, triggering a stampede that claimed 11 lives.

Siddaramaiah On His Presence

Clarifying his presence at the Vidhana Soudha function, Siddaramaiah stated that the invitation had come from cricketing authorities, not the state government.

“It was not organised by the government. I was merely an invitee. The Governor was also invited. I was not invited to the programme at the stadium," he added.
