The Tumakuru police on December 10 announced the arrest of a six-member gang who had allegedly arrived in Sira taluk to rob jewellery shops.

The accused have been identified as Praveen Kumar, Om Kumar Bishnoi, Dileep, Ravindra Sharan, Dinesh, and Kailash Chowdary, all residents of Rajasthan. The gang had reached Tumakuru on the morning of December 4.

On the same day, around 9.45 a.m., the gang barged into a jewellery shop named Mahalakshmi Bankers and Jewelers in Cheluru. The accused brandished sharp weapons and demanded that the owner, Sunil, hand over gold. However, the owner resisted and screamed for help, alerting shopkeepers nearby. Fearing they would be caught, the gang fled the shop in their hatchback car, which had a tampered number plate.

Following the incident, Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V. formed a special team, considering the daring attempted daylight robbery. The team worked on key technical leads and managed to trace and arrest the suspects within a few days.

Further investigations revealed that the gang had planned a series of robberies using the fake number plate to evade detection.
