Rajasthan: Woman dies, husband injured as house ceiling collapses in Kota

KOTA: A 30-year-old woman died while her husband sustained critical injuries after stone slabs from the one-room house they were sleeping in collapsed on them during the night between Saturday and Sunday in Sultanpur town, Kota district.The incident occurred at around 1 am in a house in a colony opposite the forest office, SHO of Sultanpur police station, Satyanarayan Malav, said on Sunday morning.The couple, identified as Javed Akthar (36) and his wife Yasmeen (30), were buried under the fallen stone slabs.On receiving the report, police rushed to the site and, with help from locals, rescued the couple and took them to MBS Hospital in Kota. Yasmeen succumbed to her injuries at around 5 am, while her husband remains under critical care, the SHO added.The house, which was concrete-built, collapsed after rainwater seeped into its foundation, causing two walls to give way and the ceiling slabs to fall on the couple, he explained.Initially, the family refused to permit a post-mortem. Authorities are persuading them while the injured man continues to receive treatment.
