Ram Charans starrer ‘Peddi’ to get extended theatrical version with new Janhvi Kapoor scenes after backlash - Report

Ram Charan starrer ‘Peddi’ directed by Buchi Babu Sana received huge criticism upon its portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character. After the team announced edits in the film, latest developments suggest that an extended version of the movie will be released in theatres from June 17.

Extended version coming to theatres

As per a Hindustan Times report, the new version will include three scenes that were not part of the original theatrical cut. The decision comes after audiences expressed concerns about the way Janhvi Kapoor's character Achiyyamma was presented in the film.

Three deleted scenes added back

Speaking at a recent success meet, Buchi Babu revealed that the team has already completed the editing work required for the updated version. "We have already edited it," the director said.

"They will be added from this Wednesday. We have added a total of three scenes. There will be scenes related to the heroine and also one scene for Jagapathi Babu. All the missing elements will be included in it."The director also explained that two of the restored scenes are connected to Janhvi Kapoor's character. He believes these moments will help audiences understand Achiyyamma better."There are two more scenes related to Janhvi's character. After watching them, the audience will connect even more with the character," he said.

"I believe that with that, Janhvi's character will reach another level."Apart from these scenes, an additional sequence featuring Jagapathi Babu will also be included in the updated version.

‘Peddi’ controversy

For the unversed, ‘Peddi’ received backlash on social media regarding some scenes involving Achiyyamma as internet users felt that her character was not given enough importance in the story and were only objectifying her character with body shots.There was criticism with the film’s certain romantic scenes where Ram Charan’s character Peddi is shown kissing Achiyamma without her consent.Following the outburst, Buchi Babu Sana issued a public apology and assured audiences that their concerns were being taken seriously.Speaking about ‘Peddi’, the film stars Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Boman Irani and Divyenndu, with music composed by A.R. Rahman.
