Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has set a precedent in Telangana’s bureaucratic circles by securing an extension of seven months from the Department of Personnel and Training at one go.
The Chief Secretary, who was expected to retire on Sunday on attaining the age of superannuation, will continue in the post till the end of the current financial year (March 31 next year). In its communication to the General Administration Department, the DoPT said that the extension was granted in relaxation of the All India Services (DCRB) Rules, 1958, by invoking the provisions of the AIS (CS-RM) Rules, 1960.
The government is said to have requested permission for extension of his tenure by six or eight months and the DoPT gave its nod for seven months, a first since formation of Telangana. Senior bureaucrat Rajiv Sharma who was the first Chief Secretary of Telangana too was granted extension of six months, but in two phases, making Mr. Ramakrishna Rao the first to secure a seven month extension at one go.
Sources said the extension comes in the light of the good rapport Mr. Ramakrishna Rao enjoys at the Central level. Mr. Ramakrishna Rao visited New Delhi several times seeking resolution of the reorganisation issues where he held a series of meetings with the Union Home Ministry and the DoPT, especially on staff bifurcation related issues.
