Ranchi: Agriculture minister Shilpi Neha Trikey on Tuesday said that excessive rainfall this monsoon along with cyclone Montha have caused 25 to 30% crop damage, which may increase to 40% and added that under the circumstances the officials must be sensitive in providing compensation to the farmers.She was speaking at the state-level workshop on Rabi crop 2025-26 at Birsa Agriculture University. She said that coordination among the officials within her department could lessen the difficulties of farmers adding that those uncovered under Birsa Fasal Bima could be provided compensation from the disaster management section.The minister said that currently farmers are uncertain about future of their family and children so there is need to help them.
She said that officials should immediately send report on crop damages from circles to the district headquarters.The minister added that each officer of her department should try to change the lives of at least 200 farmers, adding that list of people benefitted by their efforts would also be prepared. She said that steps must also be taken to increase the number of Kisan Credit Crd beneficiaries.On Rabi workshop she said that its objective is to inform farmers about the right crops and technology to increase production.
Agriculture secretary Abu Bakr Sidiqqui said that there should be a calendar for both Rabi and the Kharif crops in order to perform all farming works on time. He said that right choice of crops according to soil would benefit the farmers. He added that available agriculture resources must be utilised better. BAU vice-chancellor Dr S C Dubey said that steps must be taken to help farmers recover from ill-effects of climate adding that excessive rainfall which damaged kharif crop could be beneficial for coming Rabi season as the soil would have moisture.Agriculture director Zeeshan Kamar, registrar Sashi Ranjan, director Madhwi Mishra attended the meeting.
