Ranchi: The district administration would deploy around 5,000 police personnel, including 1,000 traffic police, in the district to ensure the safety of devotees and maintain law and order on Monday.Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan said, “The main focus is on the management of crowd at water bodies during ‘argya’ rituals, preventing incidents of drowning, traffic management, and thwarting thefts in vacant houses.”Police personnel would be deployed at 62 water bodies across the district. Around 40 bike squads, apart from the routine patrolling from local police stations, would keep a vigil in the identified 80 localities in the city, where thefts occurred in recent years while the devotees were away for Chhath rituals, sources said.National Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Hazaribag, and Dumka. Each team has 30 personnel, who are equipped with equipment to meet any emergency.An NDRF official said, “Each team has deep divers with life jackets to rescue people from drowning. It also has ropes and other equipment for tackling stampedes, rescuing people from collapsed buildings, and handling chemical-related emergencies. Teams would be deployed at Kanke Dam, Dhurwa Dam, Bada Talaab, and Hatnia Talaab in Ranchi. Local divers would be deployed at other locations.”SP (Traffic) Rakesh Singh said that personnel would be deployed at major ghats.
