Raveena Tandon blames local bodies for stray dog crisis, reacts to SC verdict

A social media debate has been triggered by the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the relocation of strays to shelters in Delhi-NCR. A captivating perspective comes from actor Raveena Tandon, who stays in the mews because she loves dogs.In an interview with HT City, Raveena shared her insights on the verdict, saying that where the population of indies had increased, it was honestly not the poor dogs who were to be blamed. She added that it meant the vaccination and sterilization drives were not being carried out by local bodies.

She further added that if that had been a success, or if the money and infrastructure had been set properly, she did not think they would have reached this point.

She said that local bodies were responsible for the strays in their communities and that sterilization was the need of the hour.Regarding movies, Raveena most recently starred in the wedding drama ‘Ghudchadi’ and will next be seen in the currently-produced ‘Welcome To The Jungle.’

Regarding the Judgement

With a clear directive that no animal caught will be put back on the streets, the Supreme Court on Monday ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) be gathered up within eight weeks and placed in special dog shelters that will be established by local authorities.

In response to a petition filed on its own motion regarding the "alarming and disturbing" increase in stray dog attacks, a bench of justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan ordered contempt proceedings against any person or group that tries to prevent the authorities from conducting the capture drive. It ordered Delhi-NCR authorities to establish a helpline so that all complaints of dog bites can be filed and the offending animal can be picked up "within four hours" of the complaint.
