The political crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) intensified on Sunday as several rebel party MPs gathered at the residence of Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi.

Among those attending the meeting were Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Satabdi Roy, Saayoni Ghosh, Mala Roy, Bapi Halder and Prasun Banerjee. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was also present at Yadav’s residence.

This development comes ahead of a likely meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla later in the day. Earlier, it was claimed that the meeting of the rebel faction with Birla would take place on Monday.

Claim Of Support From 22 TMC MPs

The gathering comes at a crucial juncture for the dissident camp, which is seeking recognition as a separate parliamentary bloc in the Lok Sabha. Earlier in the day, Dastidar claimed that the rebel faction had grown to 22 MPs and was preparing to formally approach the Speaker for recognition.

Why Is TMC Facing Political Crisis?

The developments mark a dramatic escalation of the turmoil that has gripped the TMC since its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. In recent days, several MPs have openly broken ranks with the party leadership, citing concerns over the political situation in the state and expressing support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.

Dissident Camp Seeks Separate Bloc Status

The dissident camp had earlier submitted a letter seeking recognition as a separate parliamentary group under the leadership of Dastidar. A document bearing the signatures of 19 TMC MPs surfaced on Friday, fuelling speculation that the party’s Lok Sabha contingent could witness a major split.

The meeting at Yadav’s residence is being closely watched for indications of the rebels’ next move and the possibility of further defections. With the faction claiming support from 22 MPs, its anticipated interaction with the Speaker could prove pivotal in determining the future course of the crisis within the TMC.
