The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya and some other key locations in Varanasi were among the major targets of a terror module linked to the recent car blast near Delhi’s historic Red Fort that killed 12 people and injured several others on Monday evening.

Sources revealed this during the interrogation of suspects arrested from multiple locations, as police and central agencies intensify their probe into the deadly explosion.

The terrorists intended to carry out a blast in Ayodhya, with Shaheen, an already detained suspect, having activated a sleeper module in the city. The terrorists were apprehended before they could execute their plans, and the explosives were seized.

It has been reported that there was no intention to target the Red Fort. Investigations show that the explosive device used lacked a timer or other triggering mechanisms, indicating a hasty and panic-driven blast.

Hospitals And Crowded Public Places Were On The Radar

During questioning, the terrorists disclosed that their module aimed to target hospitals to inflict maximum casualties, with hospitals and crowded areas being high on their list.

Following continuous raids and the recovery of a large cache of explosive-making material and weapons, security agencies now face the challenge of locating the remaining 300 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, which remains unaccounted for.

So far, agencies have recovered 2,900 kilograms of explosive-making materials, but the search for the hidden 300 kilograms is still ongoing. These explosives, sourced from various origins, were hidden by the terrorists, prompting raids across multiple regions to uncover the entire module.

Investigations have revealed that these materials reached the arrested terrorists via a route passing through Bangladesh and Nepal before entering India. The ammonium nitrate, stolen from fertilisers, comprised a total consignment of 3,200 kilograms.
