Speakers at the one-day faculty seminar titled ‘Child development for preschool teachers of Sri Lanka’ held here on Tuesday expressed concern over the children’s physical and mental health, in view of the increasing screen time with the advent of technology. They wanted the amount of technology consumed by the children to be regulated and thoroughly monitored.
The seminar was organised by Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam’s (SPMVV) Centre for International Relations, in association with the Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS), at the varsity campus. The event saw the participation of 40 preschool teachers from Sri Lanka.
SPMVV Vice-Chancellor V. Uma emphasised the importance of foundational education in shaping the future of children, especially those in the one to six age group. “Early education in children is not just about teaching, it is also about transforming lives during the most sensitive and formative years”, she observed.
K.M.M.W.B. Galkaduwa, executive director of Helping Education for Children, Youth and Elders Organisation (HEFCYE), Sri Lankan Central Province, praised India’s cultural and linguistic diversity and thanked SPMVV for offering this cross-border learning opportunity. “This experience will empower our teachers with valuable insights and modern pedagogical practices required to handle children of tender age,” he added.
SPMVV registrar N. Rajani, Head of Education Department T. Amudhavalli and RASS project officer Ramesh Reddy addressed the teachers. SPMVV Centre for International Relations dean P. Vijayalakshmi, associate sean R. Usha and members Sobha Rani and Hima Bindu coordinated the event.
