Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the only woman to hold the post among the 14 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled States, will campaign for the Bihar Assembly election, and be present when Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha files his nomination papers, officials said on Tuesday (October 14, 2025).
Ms. Gupta will reach Lakhisarai on Wednesday (October 15), where she will accompany Mr. Sinha as he files his nomination, and will address a public meeting at the KRK ground there, according to officials at the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office.
Later in the day, Ms. Gupta will address a public meeting in Bihar Sharif in support of the local BJP candidate, Sunil Kumar. She will return to Delhi on the same day, the officials said.
Ms. Gupta, who took charge as Delhi Chief Minister in February, is in huge demand for campaigning for the Bihar election, BJP leaders said.
She will campaign in different Assembly constituencies in Bihar for at least six days — three days ahead of the first phase of polls, and for as many days during the campaigning for the second phase, they said.
"The outcome of the Bihar election will depend heavily on the voting by women. Ms. Gupta, besides being the only woman Chief Minister among BJP-ruled States, is a good orator who connects with the audience through her straight talk," a party leader said.
Ms. Gupta, who belongs to a trader community, was given preference over other contenders for the CM’s post after the BJP’s impressive victory in the Delhi Assembly election held in February this year.
The party returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, winning 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, ending the decade-long dominance of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Polling for the upcoming Bihar Assembly election will be held in two phases, on November 6 and November 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14.
