As Punjab continues to reel under devastating floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains, which have left more than 1,900 villages across 23 districts inundated, several BJP-ruled states, as well as Delhi, have stepped in with financial assistance and relief materials.

At least 43 people have died, while standing crops over 1.71 lakh hectares have been destroyed in flood-hit Punjab, according to official estimates.

Vast stretches of farmland remain submerged, rivers are still flowing above danger levels, and major highways have been cut off due to flooding and landslides.

Amid the crisis, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced Rs 5 crore in aid to Punjab, dispatching 15 truckloads of supplies from Panchkula.

“Service is our tradition; service is our religion!" Saini wrote on X, adding that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, both the government and the BJP organisation were committed to ensuring relief reaches people without delay.

The Delhi government has also pledged Rs 5 crore to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagging off 52 trucks of relief material.

“Every citizen of Delhi, along with the government, stands with the people of flood-affected Punjab," she said.

Punjab Congress Criticises Centre

While aid pours in from states, the Punjab Congress criticised the Centre for not releasing any relief package.

State Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring alleged, “The Centre should have given some relief package. During PM Manmohan Singh’s tenure, there was a flood 10 times less than this and ₹1,200 crore was given, but you gave nothing. People have no expectations from Bhagwant Mann. If the government had paid attention to this, such a big disaster would not have happened."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab on September 9 to review the situation firsthand.

The BJP’s Punjab unit said on X that the Prime Minister will meet flood-affected residents and farmers in Gurdaspur and “take every possible step to help the victims."
