The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) has directed officials to immediately remove an obstruction erected near the Undavalli pumping station to prevent disruption in water flow linked to the Krishna river and Kondaveeti Vagu.

ADC Chairperson and Managing Director D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy issued the instructions to engineering officials after reviewing the situation at the pumping station on Saturday (May 30, 2026). The temporary bund had been set up by Irrigation Department authorities during repair works at the pumping station to prevent Kondaveeti Vagu water from entering the intake pond, according to officials.

However, ADC officials said leakage from sluice gates at the irrigation head regulator and the obstruction resulted in an unusual reverse flow of water from the Krishna river into the Penumaka reservoir, where development works are underway. ADC Chief Engineer B. Narasimha Murthy explained that water, which would normally drain into the Buckingham Canal through Kondaveeti Vagu, was stagnating due to the bund.

Taking serious note of the issue, the ADC CMD spoke to Irrigation Department officials and instructed them to remove the obstruction immediately.

She also inspected water inflows into the Penumaka reservoir and directed officials to ensure that bridges under construction across Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu do not hinder water flow during the rainy season. Officials were further instructed to deepen the diversion channel at Rayapudi near Palavagu.
