Residents’ monsoon woes resurface as roads remain neglected

Jaipur: With monsoon approaching, residents in several parts of the city fear that deteriorating road conditions will disrupt their daily lives. From unfinished roadworks to badly damaged stretches, many fear that even moderate rainfall could lead to waterlogging, muddy roads and unsafe commuting conditions. In Ram Nagar Extension’s Hem Marg, construction of a cement-concrete road was completed in mid-May. However, soil and construction material left behind along the roadside have not been cleared. With the first showers already arriving, the loose soil has turned into slush, increasing the risk for two-wheelers.“Our happiness was short-lived when the road was finally constructed, the leftover soil has become a major problem.

During rains, it becomes difficult for children and elderly residents to move around safely,” said local resident Manish Sharma.Rekha Verma, who lives in the area, said school-going children are the worst affected. “Every morning, we have to navigate through mud and slippery patches. The fear of someone falling or meeting with an accident lingers,” she said.Residents of Shanti Path in Jhotwara are facing a different problem.

Despite repeated complaints, the road is still full of potholes and has not been repaired for years. “When I bought my house in 2020, the road was in poor condition. Six years later, the situation remains changed, even though roads in nearby areas have been redone,” said resident Tushar Sahu.Local shopkeeper Jitendra Saini said water-filled potholes become a serious hazard during the rainy season. “People cannot judge their depth, and that increases the risk of accidents. Customers also avoid using this route when it rains,” he said.
