Residents of Srinivasa Layout in Bagalur are grappling with crumbling roads and overflowing sewage that worsen during rains, despite repeated complaints to authorities. The lack of proper drainage and road maintenance has turned daily commutes into a struggle, raising concerns over public safety and health, according to residents.

“During monsoons, navigating potholes while travelling has been a task. With the mix of sewage water coming from the adjacent colonies, it restricts mobility to our area,” said M. Kethan, resident of Srinivasa Layout. He said that with multiple apartments and layouts coming up, this is the only lane connecting to the main road, posing a major problem to the commuters.

Road issues

Jayan Philip Tor, principal of St. Francis School, said that even after multiple requests to the authorities, there was no progress regarding it.

“We’ve reached out to both gram panchayat and the State government, including the MLA, several times. Though the State did revert and conducted a survey on the roads, there was no progress after that. The school is paying taxes, and additionally, we spent ₹3 lakh last year for repairs. But the situation is still bad. We have more than 1,300 students and around 100 faculty; it is disturbing to witness kids having to go through this while commuting to school. Every day, accidents are being recorded,” he said.

Residents complain that authorities have offered little beyond surveys and short-term fixes.

“Car services refuse to come here because of the bad road, and exacerbating the situation is the absence of streetlights, which makes it impossible to use the road at night,” another resident, Mubina Taaz, said.
