Residents of a high-rise residential society in Greater Noida were allegedly thrashed with sticks over complaints of power cuts in the complex, officials said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday evening in Ecovillage-1, the videos of which surfaced online.
In the viral videos, guards were seen thrashing residents with sticks while the latter were heard screaming, “maar kyu rahe ho? (why are you beating?)".
Another video showed some other men kicking the residents in front of a child who was present at the scene.
The police said that the matter escalated when the residents complained to the maintenance department of the society about power outage for hours. As the maintenance officials allegedly did not provide specific details, a heated argument broke out over the matter, leading to violence by some guards.

The victim residents claimed that there had been no power for nearly three hours, and the staff did not respond to repeated calls.
“We went downstairs and saw that some other residents were already there, asking questions. While we were talking, some maintenance staff suddenly started hitting us. One man grabbed me by the collar, and others beat me with sticks. I was also slapped. My whole body is swollen," a victim said.
After a formal complaint, the police arrested four members of the maintenance department.
The police have registered a case and arrested the accused person on charges of assault.
