Worried over landslips, residents of Kundagal in Nagara Hobli of Hosanagar taluk have urged the State government to send an expert team to study the ground situation.

A hillock in the village has developed huge cracks, and a part of it has been displaced, leaving the residents in shock. Particularly, the people cultivating the land nearby were worried about safeguarding their land.

MLA for Tirthahalli Araga Jnanendra on Tuesday visited Kundagal and interacted with the villagers. He inspected the spot.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Jnanendra said that the spot had minor cracks last year, and the people felt it would not cause much damage. However, this time in the beginning of the monsoon, the hillock developed wide cracks.

“One can see a portion of the hillock is sliding due to rains. The damage may get worse as the village is located in a high rainfall area,” he said.

M. Jnanendra asked the district administration and the officials of the Mines and Geology Department to study the situation and send a team of experts. “A majority of the cultivators in the village are small farmers. They have no alternative sources of income. If necessary, the government should give them suitable compensation and shift them to a safe place,” he said.
