One month before, on June 11, Jen Bremner, his mother, died following five years of breast cancer.

Los Angeles Angels chose second overall in the 2025 MLB Draft Tyler Bremner, a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher from UC Santa Barbara. On Sunday, July 13, the draft event happened; his emotional response rapidly went viral. San Diego, California native Tyler Bremner was surrounded by family when he began weeping, missing mother, J - just a month earlier died.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Tyler Bremner said, “She came out to all the games, all the way to the point where her body wouldn’t let her anymore.”Although he finished the season with a 3.49 ERA, Tyler Bremner became one of the hottest picks late in his college career. According to Baseball America, from April 4 to May 16, he posted a 2.94 ERA and racked up 74 strikeouts. He also became UC Santa Barbara’s all-time strikeout leader.

Tyler Bremner says he pitched through pain while honoring his late mother

Tyler Bremner admitted that he grew stronger as his mother’s condition worsened. “Funny enough, as she got worse, that’s when I got stronger on the field,” he told Los Angeles Times. He shared how he used his grief to push harder, saying, “Pitching angry, or pitching for her, helped me compete.”In March 2025, he told Baseball America, “I’m just trying to go out and dominate with my stuff.
