Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was acquitted by a local court in a case registered against him in 2023 for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the police.

The designated MP-MLA court delivered its verdict on Thursday, stating that Reddy was found not guilty under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. “Hence the accused was acquitted,” the judgment said.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by a policeman in Nirmal district, who alleged that Reddy, then serving as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, had used objectionable language against the police during a press interaction at the state Congress headquarters in Hyderabad.

The complainant claimed that Reddy said he had “noted down in his diary the names of Mahbubnagar Police” and made derogatory remarks about the Telangana police force.

Originally registered in Nirmal district in August 2023, the case was later transferred to Begum Bazar police station in Hyderabad, following jurisdictional requirements.

Reddy, who appeared before the court twice this year, denied all allegations made against him. The court on May 22 posted the case for judgment to June 12.
