Patna: Tensions within the Lalu Prasad family erupted on Wednesday evening when angry RJD supporters chased away Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav and pelted stones at his vehicle in Vaishali, where he had gone to campaign for his party candidate. The incident highlighted the growing political conflict between Prasad’s two sons.Tej Pratap was returning from Mahnar after campaigning for his party candidate Jai Singh Rathore when a mob of RJD workers allegedly surrounded his car from all sides, shouting slogans of “Lalu zindabad” and “RJD zindabad”. Sources said JJD workers and supporters tried to steer Tej’s vehicle through the crowd, but RJD supporters continued to pursue the convoy for some distance as the situation escalated.Condemning the incident, Rathore alleged that their vehicle was attacked with stones by RJD “goons” and described it as a deliberate conspiracy.
He claimed that such acts of aggression were aimed at intimidating opposition candidates. “The opposition candidate has resorted to such methods as he is apprehensive of losing the election,” he said, urging local authorities to provide increased security.Tej Pratap, who was expelled from the RJD for six years after revealing details of a personal relationship, has since floated his own party and is contesting independently. His younger brother,
Tejashwi Prasad Yadav
, has been declared the INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial face and is campaigning extensively for alliance candidates across the state.
A day before the incident, Tej had publicly opposed the move to describe Tejashwi as a “jannayak”. “He is not a jannayak but under the ‘chhatrachhaya’ (cover) of Laluji. For example, I don’t enjoy the ‘chhatrachhaya’ of Laluji, but I have the support of the general masses,” Tej told the reporter. The fraternal feud, once confined to political rhetoric, has now spilled onto the campaign trail, exposing widening cracks within Bihar’s most prominent political family.
