A shocking incident of road rage unfolded in Meerut on Saturday night when two groups of men clashed violently over not giving way to each other’s cars. What makes the episode even more disturbing is that the fight broke out right in front of police personnel, who were unable to stop the brawl as it spiralled out of control.
The incident took place around 10 pm on Khirwa Road under Kankerkhera police station limits. According to reports, two cars were travelling along the narrow stretch when an argument erupted after one driver refused to let the other pass. The heated exchange soon turned physical, and within seconds, punches were flying between the men from both vehicles.
POLICE ON THE SPOT, UNABLE TO STOP THE FIGHT
A video of the confrontation, which has gone viral on social media, shows a police officer attempting to intervene. The officer can be seen trying to restrain one of the men, but the individual breaks free, charges towards another car, and begins hitting a man sitting inside. The man rains blows on the other man and hurls abuse, until his friend rushes out to defend him, only for the attacker’s companion to join in and pull him down.
Bystanders can be heard shouting as the situation escalates, while the police appear helpless in preventing the assault. Soon after the scuffle, both groups fled the scene in their cars.
POLICE BEGIN PROBE AFTER VIRAL VIDEO
Following the circulation of the video online, the police launched an investigation to identify the men involved.
Circle Officer (CO) of Daurala, Prakash Agrawal, confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday night near Khirwa Road.
“This video is from around 10 pm. The altercation began over not giving side to the other vehicle and quickly turned into a fight. Both groups left the spot soon after. Once the video came to our attention, the Kankerkhera police called in both parties, recorded their statements, and received a written complaint. Further action is being taken after inquiry,” Agrawal said.
