Fifty-five day-old ‘Robin’ is the latest addition to the Detective Dog Squad of the Perambalur District Police. The puppy will be trained in detection of narcotic substances in the near future.
The male puppy belonging to the Labrador Retriever breed was purchased from Madurai to become the fresh addition to the Detective Dog Squad. It was christened ‘Robin’ by the Superintendent of Police, Perambalur, Adarsh Pachera.
Police sources said two handlers would take care of the puppy where it would be provided basic training in obedience and other aspects till September. It will be sent for specialised training in detection of narcotic substances in October either to Chennai or Coimbatore or Madurai, the sources said.
The specialised training will be on detection of narcotics substances on board vehicles, besides human search, building, and ground searches, the sources added. The Detective Dog Squad of Perambalur Police presently had two detective dogs - one trained in detecting explosive substances and the other for detection of crimes.
