Actor Ruchita Jadhav, revealed on social media that Arya had approached her weeks earlier to discuss a film based on, coincidentally, a hostage situation.

The accused has been identified as Rohit Arya.

The accused has been identified as Rohit Arya.

A day after Rohit Arya was shot dead by Mumbai Police following a tense hostage crisis at a Powai studio, new revelations have surfaced suggesting that Arya had been in touch with several Marathi film industry figures about potential projects, including one eerily similar to the events that unfolded.

Veteran Marathi actor Girish Oak confirmed that he had met Arya at RA Studio in Powai just a day before the incident. “A person who had worked with me briefly in the past contacted me on behalf of Arya for a role in his film," Oak told HT. “I was informed that Arya had produced movies earlier, so I agreed to meet him."

Oak said the meeting on October 29 appeared routine at first. “We discussed a project based on a social cause. I noticed many children at the studio and asked about them. He told me they were attending a workshop. The kids even gathered for a group photo with me, and some parents took selfies. I left around noon," he added.

Another actor, Ruchita Jadhav, revealed on social media that Arya had approached her weeks earlier to discuss a film based on, coincidentally, a hostage situation.

What actor Ruchita Jadhav said?

In a detailed Instagram post, Jadhav wrote, “On 4th October, I was contacted by someone named Rohit Arya regarding a film project. The subject he described was about a hostage situation. As an actor, I agreed to hear more."

She added that Arya later messaged her again to arrange a meeting at a Powai studio between 27th and 29th October. “On 27th October, he sent me the location and asked if we could meet the next day. I had agreed to meet on the 28th but cancelled due to a family commitment," she wrote.

When the news broke of the real-life hostage crisis on October 30, Jadhav said she was deeply shaken. “When I saw the terrifying incident in the news, involving this same person, I felt a chill. I can’t stop thinking about how close I came to being there," she posted.

Powai hostage incident

The shocking incident unfolded on 30 October 2025, when 50-year-old Arya held 17 children and two adults hostage at RA Studio, located in the Mahavir Classic building in Powai. The children, aged between 10 and 15, had gathered for a web series audition when Arya suddenly locked the doors, declaring them his hostages.

Witnesses said the children’s screams through the glass panels around 1:15 pm alerted nearby residents, prompting an immediate police response. Negotiations lasted over an hour, but Arya refused to surrender, claiming he was owed payment for an educational film he had produced. He also demanded to speak with certain officials and threatened to harm the hostages or set the studio on fire.

A tactical team from the Mumbai Police’s Quick Reaction Unit eventually stormed the studio. Arya was shot during the operation and later died of his injuries. All hostages were safely rescued, and none sustained injuries.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has since taken over the investigation to find out Arya’s motives and mental state. Preliminary reports suggest he had financial disputes linked to his film work.
