The speakers at a roundtable organised by the CPI (M) Bhadrachalam town committee on Thursday warned of ‘sadak bandh’ if the sand-laden lorries were allowed to ply on the damaged Charla-Venkatapuram stretch of the highway in Bhadrachalam Agency without repairing the damaged road.
The roundtable was presided over by the Telangana Adivasi Girijana Sangham district secretary Karam Pullaiah and attended by the leaders of the CPI (M), the TDP, the CPI (ML) Mass Line and various other organisations.
Addressing the participants, the CPI (M) district secretary Machha Venkateshwarlu alleged that the unabated plying of overloaded sand lorries on the highway left the road badly damaged, causing a nightmare for motorists and posing safety risks.
The remaining speakers echoed concerns over the bad condition of the highway at various stretches mainly between Charla and Venkatapuram.
They threatened to launch an agitation if the government fails to carry out repairs to the highway, the crucial inter-state road passing through the tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam Agency.
